Reckless Kelly - Millican

In the late 90s I had collected records a few years but purchases consisted mostly of completion of artists who were most active in '60 and '70's. Mostly because it was not given out especially with good music ... it was before I discovered everything. country / No Depression / Americana ...
Then I moved to Lillehammer, and began to hang on Basement after work. I had been a customer there for years, when they had an exquisite LP department, but it was only when I became a regular guest and talked to the owner, Egon, the plate shelves had to be extended. And when we talk about Egon as we speak plate pusher who could job. After a few visits he began to find things when I came in, and said that "this here will like" ... at first I was very skeptical about the - but eventually developed into that when I came back on my ca. weekly visits - so it was clear a stack of plates under the counter that I bought unheard. And the man was spot-on every time.
And one afternoon in 1998, I stopped by and picked me a new batch of goodies. One of the plates in the stack was Reckless Kelly's debut album "Millican".

The band from Bend, Oregon who moved to Austin, Texas and the critic darlings in the United States.

And since this was in 1998, so was the internet (just barely) become widespread enough that one could find some info out there. My search Reckless Kelly took me to a website on Geocities Blessed, where two girls in Austin had mentioned Reckless Kelly on their websites about someone they called the Old 97's. And by the sisters Beaman Old 97's side, so we ended up at Old 97's mailing list "Wrecked" (this was before there was any forum ... then went all such communications via e-mail) - and discovered a lot of bands that hardly anyone in this country had heard about - since music on the Internet was largely subject mp3s in newsgroups, and hardly any Norwegian record stores imported obscure American music.

But much of this started with the words Reckless Kelly. And Reckless Kelly has endured with me since 1998. They continue to deliver their distinctive style of music and country rock that has been copied and cover art by countless bands in both home and abroad. And I still buy their recordings (and related bands and music styles of course).

Much of what makes Reckless Kelly especially for the first vowel of Willy Braun. Secondly vocals brother Cody Braun. And of course rigorous sound to Cody Braun. He plays both fiddle and mandolin and guitar - and especially fiddle sound is a very important element in the sound of Reckless Kelly.

And on top of this as they write killer good and catchy tunes. Tracks like "Walton Love," "Back Around", "Black & White" and "Drink Your Whiskey Down" must certainly be mentioned, but the disc as a whole is quite excellent.
Reckless Kelly can really recommend both everyday and party.

Visit Reckless Kelly and purchase discs: (Both LP, CD and MP3 ... and $ 9 for a digital plate - IT you can afford ...)

I was born in 1984, and is almost for a brat to rain. Most people who had followed Jay Farrar from his time in Uncle Tupelo with Jeff Tweedy was most likely his first meeting with Son Volt through their first studio album, "Trace", which came out in 1995. I was eleven years old in 1995, and neither Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy was on my musical radar.
